A Small Room of Hope

You are not spiritual because you have never had anything almost break you. You are privileged to never have felt truly alone or without hope. 

You never felt that level of heartbreak where you find meaning so it doesn’t destroy you.You have never experienced abandonment or cruelty in a way that even logic cannot explain. 

But I have found a way to survive. I protected those feelings by creating a small room in my heart that no one can touch. Where all of the decisions belong to me - especially who is invited. The rules are mine and no one gets to change them. 

And I protect that room because no one protected me. I protect that room because it is what I have left of childhood. That is spirituality - a small room of hope.
