5 Things I Learned From My Art Journal

1. I like lines to connect

My brain is always jumping around so when I look at art, it is more pleasing to move around the piece than focus on a specific beginning, middle or end.

2. Color is authentically me

I am fascinated by the juxtaposition between childlike color, free drawing and deeper thought.

3. I like things complicated

I want to look at artwork and slowly peel back the layers of process and inspiration.

4. There is less pressure

I like the time to play and especially the process of painting over old ideas as a way of letting go of what no longer inspires me.

5. I’m a work in progress

With each page, I learn more about myself. I learn to be less critical but also to trust my instincts. I learn to forgive myself and take additional risks in sharing who I am.
